CHANDIGARH: High drama prevailed at the Arts block I (examination centre 38) in Panjab University on Monday afternoon as a question paper of B Com II was "smuggled out" of the examination hall.

The incident was brought into the notice of the authorities by a passerby who spotted a few boys at the Arts block III solving a question paper at aroud 2: 20 pm, which was a photostat copy of the original question paper distributed to the students.

The paper even had a roll number of the candidate written in his own handwriting. As the boys were caught solving the Business finance and accounting and corporate accounting paper of B Com II, they panicked and ran away from the spot leaving behind the copy of the paper.

The Vice Chancellor Prof KN Pathak, Registrar Prof Paramjit Singh, controller of examination Dr Sodhi Ram along with other senior staff members reached after being informed at the Arts Block I at around 2: 45 pm.

The student whose roll number was written on the question paper was caught and his handwriting was matched with that written in the photostat copy of the question paper which went out. More copying material including chits from his socks were recovered.

However it is still not clear how the question paper actually got out of the examination centre immediately after its distribution. The waterman who served water to the students was also interrogated but he denied his involvement.

"Since we have caught the student, an unfair means case would be framed against him and the normal procedure under the university rules would be followed," said a senior university official.

Utter chaos prevailed in Arts block II (exam centre No. 39) when no roll number cut list reached one of the examination halls for conduct of the MA I geography paper, which began at 2 pm.

The cut list is essential for the paper superintendents as it is only cut-list which tells the superintended and examination which students are eligible to take the exams. "We kept on waiting for the cut-list which the examination branch never despatched to us in time. But since we had no choice we decided to go ahead without the list of the names of the students eligible to sit in that examination hall, so that the time is not wasted," said one of the superintendents on the basis of anonymity.

It was further pointed out that when the controller of examination visited the centre along with VC and other officials, the CoE allegedly humiliated the concerned superintendent ( a senior professor on the campus) for pointing out the lapse. The CoE could not be contacted after repeated attempts.

<formid=367815></formid=367815>
